Actieve en passieve zinnen - active and passive sentences
With active and passive sentences, you can structure sentences in two ways.
In active sentences (active voice), the subject performs the action and directly influences the direct object.
Example: Ik betaal de rekening. Ik perform the action (betalen), and that action is directed at the direct object (de rekening).
In passive sentences, the direct object undergoes the action, and you use a form of the verb worden.The subject becomes an adverbial phrase with 'door'.
Example: De rekening is door mij betaald.
The direct object from the active sentence (de rekeningl) has become the subject, and the subject is indicated as an adverbial phrase with 'door mij.' Moreover, a form of the verb worden' has been added."
